Punish those behind Orissa violence: Jaya

CHENNAI: Former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa has urged the State and Central governments to provide immediate relief and compensation to the violence-hit people of Kandhamal district in Orissa.

In a statement, she asked the authorities to provide protection to the life and property of the Christian community there.

She also asked the governments to take punitive action against those who incited communal violence in the country.

Condemning the violence, Jayalalithaa said she was shocked to learn about the brutal attacks on prayer houses, hamlets of the Christian community in Kandhamal district.

“This dastardly attack on a particular community is a disgrace to the nation. Such violence by anti-socials should be nipped in the bud,’’ she said. Jayalalithaa also expressed her condolences to those killed in the violence.

CHENNAI, Aug. 30: In an apparent attempt to woo the Left parties, AIADMK supremo Ms Jayalalitha came out with a hard hitting statement against Hindutva outfits `resorting to blind attacks’ on churches and homes of Christians in Orissa and said “anti-social elements responsible for the violence should be nipped in the bud”. The AIADMK leader, who gave a red carpet welcome to Gujarat chief minister Mr Narendra Modi a few months ago, demanded that the Centre and Orissa governments should take stern action against the culprits resorting to violence against a particular community. The CPI-M State leaders had said that they were ready to join with any party which committed itself to fight against communalism and the Indo-US nuclear deal. SNS

Let us see that she does not change her stand or accuse the press that it has misinterpreted her view.
