“National shame" to confer “doctorates" on Karunanidhi, Sonia Maino and Manmohan Singh It would a “national shame" to confer “honarary doctorate" just like this, as if they want it. Definitely, the attempt has been politically motivated and not to appreaciate any talents of the the-three. In fact, the “doctorates" could be conferred from the “Periyar Maniyammai University" instead of Madras University, as it would befitting to these leaders and also to Periyar - EV Ramaswamy Naciker. Karunanidhi has enough “doctorates" and he has been already a"doctor of doctorates". For their recent acts of the three - Karunanidhi, Sonia Maino and Manmohan Singh, it would be shame to confer, as the prestigious Madras University would hang itself with disgrace and ignomity. Manmohan Singh uttered that violence of Orissa is “national shame": Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday (28-08-2008) described the ongoing violence in Orissa as a “shame on the nation” and is understood to have assured a delegation of church leaders that Rs. 3 lakh would be given as compensation to the families of those killed. Why the Sikh PM did not feel any shame when the 85-years old Swami Laxmananand was reportedly killed by the Christians? Briefing mediapersons after meeting the Prime Minister, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) spokesman Babu Joseph said that besides Dr. Singh’s compensation promise, funds would be released from the Prime Ministers’ Relief Fund for providing relief and rehabilitation to all those affected by the violence. Why the sikh PM is not met by the Hindu leaders? Courtesy: http://brahmallahchrist.indiainteracts.com/2008/08/29/catholic-pope-commands-sikh-pm-surrenders-and-naive-hindus-accused-secularism-works-well-in-india/ Sonia Maino: Perhaps, we need not discuss, as het Catholic role has been well known. Karunanidhi: We have to tell the past, as our people forget everything. At least Karunanidhi could remember his past history as to how he got his first “honarary doctorate" from the Annamalai University in 1971. When Annamalai University decided to confer “doctorae" on Karunanidhi, the University students opposed it. One Udayakumar, chairman of the Students Association openly opposed it. But his body was found in a tank, few days later. Ironically, the parents of Udayakumar themselves reportedly declared that the “body" was not that of their son! Anyway, Iniyan Sampath son of E. V. K. Sampath claims that he staged a demonstration against killing of Udayakumar in front of Karunanidhi on November 26, 1973 and arrested. For more details see at: http://iniyan.in/political_activities.htm It would mark the end of glory of Madras University: It is reported that the conferring of “doctorates" would mark the conclusion of the university’s 150th year celebrations! As on Teachers Day, Manmohan Singh will become only the second Prime Minister to visit the University of Madras to freceive it it would be disgrace to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. However, we do not know as to whether his son S. Gopal would object to it or not. No he cannot, because he is no more (he died in April 20, 2002). That at a meeting on Friday morning, the university’s Senate recommended that honorary Doctor of Literature degrees be conferred on Dr. Singh, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation director general Kandeh K. Yumkella at the special convocation event to be held on September 5. That While the university had initially planned to honour Dr. Singh, Mr. Karunanidhi and Mrs. Gandhi along with ten other eminent personalities during the 150th convocation last November, but reportedly it was decided to postpone the event due to “security reasons", it has other political reasons! Mr. Karunanidhi becomes the third Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to receive the honour from the university, after M.G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa [Thus, all actors have been in the queue]. And Karunanidhi may expect something from Singh and Sonia for singing the song. Now read the report appearing in “The Hindu": Madras University to honour Manmohan, Sonia Gandhi and Karunanidhi Priscilla Jebaraj
Special convocation event to be held on September 5Foundation stones will be laid for commemorative buildings ![]() M. Karunanidhi CHENNAI: On Teachers Day, Manmohan Singh will become only the second Prime Minister to visit the University of Madras. Like his predecessor Jawaharlal Nehru, who visited the university half a century ago for its centenary celebrations in 1957, Dr. Singh will be honoured with an honorary doctorate on his visit, which will mark the conclusion of the university’s 150th year celebrations. At a meeting on Friday morning, the university’s Senate recommended that honorary Doctor of Literature degrees be conferred on Dr. Singh, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation director general Kandeh K. Yumkella at the special convocation event to be held on September 5.While the university had initially planned to honour Dr. Singh, Mr. Karunanidhi and Mrs. Gandhi along with ten other eminent personalities during the 150th convocation last November, it was decided to postpone the event due to security reasons. Mr. Karunanidhi becomes the third Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to receive the honour from the university, after M.G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa. At the end of a year which saw the preservation of the past – the restoration of the historic Senate House – the university will also build for the future. On September 5, foundation stones will be laid for commemorative buildings at all three major campuses of the university, as well as an entrance arch at the Chepauk campus. An Arts and Humanities building is also destined for the Chepauk campus, while the Taramani campus will get a building dedicated to Basic Medical Sciences and the Guindy campus will be the venue for the new Nanotechnology and Life Sciences building. The cost of the entire project will add up to Rs. 75 crore, and all three buildings are expected to be completed by August 2010, according to Vice-Chancellor S. Ramachandran. The university will release forty new books on a wide range of subjects as part of the celebrations, including publications by State Planning Commission Vice-Chairman M. Naganathan and Member of Parliament E.M. Sudharsana Natchiappan. Eleven of the books are in Tamil, and are being released as part of the Lexicon Project. Looking back at the sesquicentennial year, Dr. Ramachandran lists several achievements. On the financial side, the university has considerably improved its research grants and its resource generation – including the establishment of a Rs. 500 crore corpus fund, of which Rs. 200 crore has been deposited. On the academic front, the choice-based credit system has been introduced to all affiliated colleges, soft skills training and industry internships have been made mandatory and student representatives have been brought onto Boards of Studies for the first time in the country. High on the list of unfulfilled targets are infrastructure expansion and filling all faculty vacancies, according to Dr. Ramachandran. However, he hopes the new commemorative buildings will help to improve the infrastructure situation. By December, he also expects to fill 100 faculty positions, leaving only 21 vacancies.

The infatuated, obsessed and craze for posessing “doctorates” by the already “Kalainjar” appears to be meanilgless.
Earlier, he ctiticized or the DMK issued mylti-colou multi-page handbills showing his political enemay bedecked with jewels and particularly possessing hundeds of pairs of chappals!
So as she collects chappals, he collects “doctorates”.

Instead of conferring Doctorate on Manmohan Singh, Karunanidhi and Sonia, the Madras University must confer Doctorate on Mr. L.K.Advani for masterminding the demolition of the Babri Msjid, Mr. Narendra Modi for the Godhra Killings and to Ms. Jayalalithaa for the Kumbakonam Maha Maham tragedy, Mass dismissal of a record number of the State Govt employees and last but not the least the arrest of Kanchi Sankaracharya.

Note how a Mohammedan could divert the issue!
He is not bothered about the standards of the pestigious Univesity, that is now degraded by the manipulations of the dirty and worthless politicians.
When all the rogues, ex-rowdies and gangsters are conferred with “doctorates” and allowed them to be paraded as VC of some University, member of Board / commission etc., what is the honour for the “honour” itself?
Also see the persons and personalites of the “KALAIMAMANI” awards given away!
One would be utterly amazed or shocked to note how two oppositely placed personalitues are standing together to get such awards.
Thus, the politicization of “doctorates” is only opposed and criticized.
Also the criminalization behind such attempts to get “doctorates”, viz., the killing of Udayakumar is pointed out.
But, people want to forget or suppress the facts.

This is also serious.
But nothing can be done.
Perhaps, all Universities would follow te suit, particularly, who are in UPA!

As expected, the so-called 150th year celebration of Madras University and the prestigious senate hall were politicized completely by the participated politicians. One of the “honorary doctorate recipients” - Karunanidhi, who also happens to be the CM of the TN state discussed about “reservation to minority”, etc as follows:

The doctorate was confered on Gandhi for her “committment to the ideals of democracy and secularism, advocacy of ethics and accountability and for her pragmatic stand between democratic institutionalism and political choices.”
* committment to the ideals of democracy and secularism,
* advocacy of ethics and accountability and
* for her pragmatic stand between democratic institutionalism and political choices.
Whether she deserves for it or not different, but if one goes by this, lakshs may get “doctorate” from Madras University, as all claim exactl;y like this.
Anyway, the third one - “her pragmatic stand between democratic institutionalism and political choices” appears to be sarcastic or euphemistic?

One Doctorate is Doctor raised to the power 1.
Two Doctorates is Doctor raised to the power 2.
Three Doctorates is Doctor raised to the power 3.
Like that perhaps, they want -
Doctor raised to the power of n!
